Bronze patina bronze sculpture representing Ariadne kneeling and lamenting leaning on a rock, after being abandoned by Theseus, inscription in Greek Ariadne on the rock, signed Aimé Millet * Sc and date 1857 on the side, on a green marble base , XIXth century.

This sculpture is in good condition. Signed see photos. A large marble copy is kept at the Musée d'Orsay (inventory RF50).

A note: micro-chips on the edge of the marble, some tiny scratches and wear of time, see photos.

* Aimé Millet (1819-1891):

This artist, sculptor and painter, has made countless official commissions. Son of a miniaturist, he began his father's workshop and worked for Viollet-le-Duc before entering the School of Decorative Arts and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in the studio of David of Angers. In addition to the Opera, he participated in the decoration of the Louvre, the Town Hall, some churches, several buildings it adorns with caryatids, etc. Its abundant production includes portraits in bust and medallion of historical figures and contemporaries, allegorical, mythological or religious groups, memorials or funerals.
