* Jean Frélaut (1879-1954):

The painter-engraver is in his time an artist representative of the Breton landscape, if any. Coming from a Morbihan family, he chose to settle in Vannes where he lived his youth rather than to seek in Paris the vanities of a worldly success. His thousands of drawings and watercolors, his thousand four hundred and thirty-four engravings and some six hundred paintings draw their beauty from them. Painter of sincerity and emotion, Jean Frélaut has also excelled in printmaking and book illustration.
