Very pretty fan with a gouache representing two gallant scenes with each time a shepherdess and her two sheep in romantic landscapes, framed finely sculpted and openwork enhanced with silver inlays, Directoire period late 18th century.

This fan is in its juice and will have to be restored.

To report: this fan is damaged in places: a lack on the mount, small slots on the mount, a few accidents and misses on the gouache also, look at the pictures.

_________________________________

* From the beginning of the 18th century, France was the leading fan producer in Europe. The decor of the first French fans is borrowed from illuminated manuscripts and tapestries. From 1770, the neoclassical style influenced the making: the branches are less ornate and the leaf is often decorated with medallions. The painted fans returned to the taste of the day under the Second Empire. The subjects are often pastiches of the themes of the previous century: gallant or pastoral scenes. Old fans are sought after by collectors. (Larousse)
