Rare large Aubusson tapestry representing Alexander the Great in the tent of Darius *, his mother at his feet begging his forgiveness, after the famous painting by Charles le Brun, border with rich decoration of plant arabesques and coats of arms, XVIIth century.

This tapestry is in good condition and is of exceptional quality.It is very decorative due to its large size.

A note: some tears in places, it will be redoubled, some traces of recovery and restorations (especially at the bottom), wear of time, take a good look at the photos.

This tapestry uses the iconography of the painting by Charles le Brun painted in 1660-61 and kept at the Museum of the Palace of Versailles. We see Alexander the Great with his general and favorite Hephestion, in front of Darius' tent. The mother of Darius throws herself at the feet of the king of Macedonia, the victor of her son at the battle of Issus (- 333), in order to implore clemency for his prisoner family.
