André Hallet

Born 26 March 1890 in Liège and died April 18, 1959 at Kisenyi (Rwanda), is a Belgian painter.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège with Richard Heintz.
His paintings are the most representative ones made in the former Belgian colony of Congo and around Lake Kivu (Rwanda currently). He was first sent to Congo by the Belgian government in 1934 and then install then Kisenyi (now Rwanda), on the shores of Lake Kivu in 1947, where he died in 1959.

In 1934, he forged a relationship with Mwambi III Matura Tutsi king of Rwanda-Burundi) and painted a series of portraits of the family of the king and his court. Before this period African, he painted landscapes while traveling in southern France, Naples, Capri and Sicily. The works of this period are known as the European period.
