Rare antique Victorian brooch in the shape of a lizard or salamander, in English yellow gold (14 carats) set with diamonds (old cut), emeralds and rubies for the eyes, with its small chain and safety pin (with small diamond), provenance England, dating from around 1870-1880 late 19th century.
This brooch is in excellent condition and of exceptional quality. It has been tested to be 14K gold. The diamonds have also been tested. This brooch is set with 48 diamonds, 17 emeralds, and 2 rubies.

The salamander has been a symbol of immortality, strength, and rebirth since antiquity. It was believed to be able to withstand flames and was therefore perceived as a magical creature. It also symbolizes the Christian faith, which cannot be destroyed.
