* In 1762, the playwright Charles Collé brought on stage the comedy entitled The King and the Meunier which was a great success but was refused by the Comédie-Française. The author then adds an act and renames the play The Hunting Party of Henri IV. The first Bourbon monarch is presented there as a sovereign close to his people and faithful in friendship. One of the most famous scenes located in Act I narrates the outcome of an intrigue led by the Marquis de Concini and Bellegarde against Maximilien de Béthune, Duke of Sully and Minister of the King, whose disgrace they wish. After having exonerated himself, Sully threw himself at the feet of the sovereign to show him his gratitude. The monarch then exclaims: “Hey! What are you doing here, Rosny? Get up then ... Take therefore, take care: these people who see us, but who could not hear what we were saying, will believe that I forgive you. You don't think about it, get up! If Louis XV allowed the play to be printed, he refused to have it performed in public theaters, probably fearing that a comparison could be made between the reign of his popular ancestor and his own. The king nevertheless attended the play in 1771 during the inauguration of Madame du Barry's music pavilion in Louveciennes as well as in the apartments of the Dauphin. The play was finally received at the Comédie-Française in 1774, under the reign of Louis XVI, who could then place himself with his minister Turgot in the footsteps of Henri IV and Sully.
