Ivory stitched case, decorated on the top of a small plate in gilded metal, signed Tahan * in Paris, of Napoleon III XIXth century.

This case is in good general condition. It is sold empty (we do not have the sewing elements).

To report: trace of restoration in the back (an ivory plate has been re-glued), the box does not close, small slits on the top, wear time, well look at the photos (cf red arrows).

* TAHAN Jean-Pierre (1813-1892)

Probably the most famous cabinetmaker of the Emperor Napoleon III. It was under his impulse that his father's house, Pierre-Lambert, took off and became one of the most famous in Paris. He practiced 10, rue basse du rempart until 1847, then 161 rue St Martin, 34 rue de la Paix from 1849, and finally 11 boulevard des Italiens, from 1866 to 1878. This last address is the most prestigious, For he had at that time the confidence of Napoleon III. His specialties were boxes, boxes, small furniture style of day, offices. He had important workshops and more than 200 workers around 1870. He took part in all the exhibitions and competitions between 1849 and 1867. He won a silver medal in 1849, one in London in 1852, and a gold medal in 1849 1867, as well as an honorary medal awarded in 1865 by the Central Union of Fine Arts. He became one of the personalities of his corporation, and practiced until 1882. His creativity, his talent, and the constant search for new materials and techniques which allowed the profession to expertise a little more . One of the great ones of that time.
