Rare chryselephantine sculpture of Demeter Chiparus *, bronze patina brown and bronze, depicting a girl doing sledding, cast iron stamp LN Paris JL **, Art Deco period around 1920-1930.

This statuette is in good condition and is of exceptional quality. Signed and foundry stamp.

* Demeter Chiparus (1886-1947):

Romanian School. Student of Mercié and Boucher, he exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1914 to 1928, honorable mention in 1914. He made typical statuettes of the 25-30 years. The craze in the 70s for the Art Deco style puts in fashion the subjects of Chiparus who is the leader of the statuary of this kind. Dancers, acrobats, oriental women, comedy characters are the favorite subjects of the artist. (extract Bénézit).

** The Neveux of Jules Lehmann

(J. Lehmann's Neveux, also abbreviated as LN Paris JL) is a Parisian art foundry, mainly known for its production and distribution of mostly chryselephantine bronze statuettes in the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s. The headquarters of the company were at 26 rue de Paradis, Paris. Another part of the company was located at 14, avenue de l'Opéra. The foundry has produced works by renowned artists such as: Demetre Chiparus, Maurice Guiraud-Rivière, Jean-Antoine Injalbert, Agathon Leonard, Giacomo Merculiano, Constant Roux, Joe Descomps-Cormier, Pierre Le Faguays, Raoul Lamourdedieu, Jan and Joel Martel, Gaston Hauchecorne, Madeleine Granger Colinet Claire, Amedeo Gennarelli, Alfred Pina, Georges Chauvel and Jean Ortis. Production ended with the Second World War and the German occupation of France.
