Large brown patina bronze sculpture representing the drunken Silenus satyr * holding a snake of his left arm, supporting a large crown forming a support for a cup or lamp, from an antique marble discovered in Pompeii and kept in the Archaeological Museum of Naples, signed from the foundry Chiurazzi Napoli, from the second half of the 19th century.

This bronze is in good condition and is of good quality because of its large size. Signed on the base.

A report: tiny dirt, a palmette of the crown was resoudée at the base, slight scratches and wear of time, see photos.

_________________________________________

* In Greek mythology, Silenus is a satyr, adoptive father and tutor of the god Dionysus, who accompanies him constantly. He is also the god personifying the Drunkenness, quite close in this sense of two other minor deities doing the one and the other part of the procession of Dionysus, Comos (good dear) and Coros (the Satiety), that Herodotus gives birth to Hybris (the excess).
