Pair of fountain masks, mascarons, head of the Potamoi River God, bronze, 17th century

Rare pair of finely chiseled bronze fountain masks, representing mascarons of bearded men: heads of the River God* or Potamoi in Greek mythology, from the 17th century.
These masks are in good condition and are of remarkable quality.
Please note: some slight bumps, dirt and wear from time, see photos.
In Greek mythology, the river gods, or Potamoi, are minor deities personifying watercourses. The Potamoi are the sons of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. They are the brothers of the Oceanids. In the Theogony, Hesiod relates that there are 3,000 Potamoi and as many Oceanids.
