* The bronzes of Vienna:

It is primarily in France that the tradition of Viennese bronze figurines is widespread, having been introduced to Vienna by Mathias Bermann in 1850. Bermann, who specialized in metal ornaments for pipes, began casting and painting figurines at this time. This marked the beginning of Viennese bronzes, which would go on to achieve worldwide renown. Towards the end of the 19th century, the golden age of metalwork in Vienna, numerous workshops were established. During the 19th century, artists created nearly 10,000 models of bronze figurines. These renowned works were exported to major cities such as New York, London, and Paris. Viennese bronzes are well known for their high technical quality and the meticulous attention to detail, movement, and expression. Each piece is unique; the chasing is done by hand, and the details vary from one piece to another. (See ProAntic Magazine)
