Pair of seditious candlesticks with silver-plated bronze Marie-Antoinette profile, late 18th century

Rare pair of so-called "seditious"* candlesticks in silver-plated bronze, chiseled shaft mounted on a tapered shaft and on a round base decorated with friezes of palmettes and Greek friezes, with royalist decoration hidden in the socket presenting in shadow the profile of the late Queen Marie-Antoinette, from the revolutionary period at the end of the 18th century.
These candle holders are in good condition, exceptional quality.
Please note: accident and hole in a socket, small crack in the top of a socket, scratches and wear from time, see photos.
commissioned by royalists; this way of evoking the royal family after the revolution is an undisturbed homage to a bygone era. There are also so-called seditious engravings concealing hidden figures.
