* Mario Avati

is a French painter and engraver (1921 -2009). After studying at the National School of Decorative Arts in Nice and as a pupil of Édouard Goerg at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Mario Avati practiced, from 1947, all engraving techniques. Ten years later, he turned, almost exclusively, to the black way, first in black, then, from 1969, in color. In so doing, he helped revive this graphic technique as a medium of popular expression. Several of his engravings were taken again for the edition of stamps. Mario Avati was a member of the Society of French Painters-Engravers and the National Committee of French Engraving. Of very classic inspiration, the work of Avati, turns almost exclusively around the still life - fruits, flowers, staged objects ... - or animals (butterflies for example), with a treatment of a great geometric rigor, but that does not lack, on occasion, humor, to start in the title.

Well-known artist on Artprice.
