Gilded bronze clock depicting a Spinner sitting on a fountain with a dog by his side, Allegory of the Goddess of Destiny Clotho *, enamelled dial with octagonal entourage decorated with shells and flanked by two half-columns surmounted by ewers, base engraved with ribbons , fans, spindles and basket, signed Chopin ** in Paris, period I Empire early nineteenth century.

This clock is in good condition and is of a remarkable quality. The enamelled dial indicates the hours in Roman numerals and the quarters in Roman numerals, it is signed Chopin in Paris (watchmaker referenced in the Tardy Dictionary of French Horlogers). The movement works (perhaps to be revised), we have his pendulum and his key.

Two different models of this clock are presented p. 336 and p. 341 in the Encyclopedia of the French Pendulum by P. Kjellberg.

A report: small break on the handle of a ewer that can be removed, the screw holding the distaff is worn (the stopper does not hold well), missing part of the thread that holds the woman (the thread had to join the other hand), some stains, scratches and wear on the bronze, accidents on the enamel of the dial, well look at the photos (see red arrows).

* Clotho:

In Greek mythology, the Moires are three divinities of Destiny: Clotho ("the Spinner"), Lachésis ("the Dispatcher") and Atropos ("the Implacable"). They will become the Fates, in Roman mythology. Clotho weaves the thread of life; Lachesis unfolds it; Atropos cuts it.
