Louis XVI pendulum in white marble and gilded bronze called "the Return of Love" or "The Mourning Bird", representing a woman draped in ancient crying the death of her dove, rectangular base bordered by a drapery and mounted on claw feet, model made by François Vion for Marie-Antoinette, vintage late eighteenth century.
This clock is in good condition and is very decorative. The movement and the dial are posterior but identical model. Movement signed "Gold Medal Samuel Marti Paris 1900". We have the key and the pendulum, it works.
Several similar clocks are listed, including the Louvre Museum, the Carnavalet Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts. That of the Louvre comes from the Collection of Marie Antoinette to the Trianon (movement of Lépine).
Here slight variant in the model with different bird position.
A note: a frieze of pearl comes off on one side, some stains on marble and bronze in places, a luster in the top of the dial, some scratches and wear of time, see photos.
