Small Empire desk clock depicting Hercules, Heracles, and the Nemean lion, gilt bronze, 19th century
Articles
Small desk clock in finely chiseled gilt bronze, representing Hercules (or Heracles) standing with the skin of the Nemean lion on his back and holding his club in his right hand; his left hand above mythological war attributes: laurel wreath, oak leaves and arrows framing a dead Stymphalian bird, from the First Empire period, early 19th century.
This clock is in good overall condition, in its original state. It is very decorative. The base is adorned with palmette friezes and rests on small toupie feet.
Its cock movement is not working; it will need to be serviced.
Please note: there is some damage to the enamel on the dial (and to one hand), some light soiling and wear to the gilding, see photos
