A Louis XVI clock in finely chased gilt bronze, decorated with a decorative cup or basin on top, enamel dial signed Gorini* Frères in Poitiers, framed on the sides by lion heads holding drapery rings, base chased with trellis, vegetal garland and scrolls, in the style of the bronzier Robert Osmond (1711-1789), from the Napoleon III period, 19th century.
This clock is in very good condition and of remarkable quality. It has its pendulum; the movement is functional but may need servicing.
This model is a variant of a clock made by the bronze craftsman Robert Osmond and referenced in Pierre Kjellberg's Encyclopedia "Encyclopedia of the French Clock", Paris 1997, p.189.
Please note: slight soiling on the gilding, minor scratches and wear consistent with age, see photos.
The Gorini brothers' firm (goldsmiths, jewelers, and watchmakers) was active in Poitiers throughout the second half of the 19th century; they were more likely watch merchants than manufacturers. (See the French government's culture website)
