Carved half coconut, in the shape of a grotesque character's head, decorated with a central cross as well as plant garlands and small flowers, work of a sailor or convict, from the 19th century.
This coconut is in good overall condition.
Please note: small crack on the edge, some scratches and wear from time, see photos.
Just like the Corozo, it was worked by sailors or even by convicts. The latter worked it to pass the time but also and above all to earn a little money to improve their daily lives. It can also be attributed to sailors during their long voyages. These objects made of coconut or corozo are beautiful examples of folk art.
