Small Italian side table or tripod torch holder, carved wood in the Blackamoore style* representing an exotic child as a caryatid carrying the tray on his head, stylized foliate base, origin Venice - Italy, 19th century.

This stool is in good condition and of very high quality. The child must have been holding objects in their hands (probably a cup and a bunch of grapes).

Please note: there are some minor accidents and missing pieces of wood (especially on the base, see red arrow), some scratches, dirt and wear from age, see photos.

* Blackamoor

The blackamoor is a type of figure in European decorative art, typically found in early modern works, depicting a man of sub-Saharan African origin, usually dressed in clothing that suggests high status. Common examples of objects and items decorated in the blackamoor style include sculpture, jewelry, and furniture. Typically, the carved figures carried something, such as candles or a tray. They were thus an exotic and lighthearted alternative to the "Atlas" figure in architecture and the decorative arts, particularly popular during the Rococo period.
