Small box mounted on foot in corozo entirely and finely carved and openwork with rich decoration of arabesques and vegetable scrolls, as well as a small character standing on the cover, work of sailor or convict, 19th century.
This box is in good condition. The box part was made in two nested parts (glued).
A note: some accidents and traces of restorations (glue) at the level of the foot, the base and the box, wear of time, see photos (see red arrows).
We are selling a large number of objects in corozo on this site.

* Coconut, just like corozo, was worked by sailors or also by convicts. They worked it to pass the time but also and above all to make some money to improve their daily lives. Can also be attributed to sailors on their long voyages. These coconut or corozo objects are fine examples of folk art.
