Small round corozo box carved with cherub musician, torch, and quiver, 19th century

Fine little round box in finely carved and openwork corozo, decorated with a musical cherub playing the trumpet on the top; on the back a quiver of arrows and a crossed torch, all on arabesques and leafy scrolls, the work of a sailor or convict*, from the 19th century.
This box is in good condition. It is very interesting due to the fineness of its carving.
Note: tiny snags on the edge (barely visible in reality), slight wear from age, see photos.

Coconut, like corozo, was worked by sailors and convicts. The latter worked it to pass the time, but also, and perhaps more importantly, to earn some money to improve their daily lives. This craft can also be attributed to sailors during their long voyages. These coconut and corozo objects are beautiful examples of folk art.
