Very nice tagua snuff finely carved, decorated with portraits of the profile as well as flowers and foliage, work sailor or convict * of XIXth century.
This snuff box is in good condition.
A note: one side is désenboîte and will reattach a small gap in the above (red arrow), time wear, see photos.
* The coconut as tagua was worked by sailors or also by convicts. The latter worked to pass the time but mainly to make some money to improve their lives. Can also be attributed to sailors during their long journeys. These objects coconut or tagua are fine examples of folk art.
