Auguste JEAN (1830-1890):

Son of ceramist, he began to be known from 1860 as ceramist and decorator of fine earthenware before turning to glassware art. Novice, he brought an upheaval in the technique of enamelled decorations. His first Japanese vase decorations are painted with polychrome enamels in high relief and gold. They make them on vases, bowls, baskets with tripod base and leaning body. He performs them at the Cristallerie de Clichy in crystal. His glassworks are noticed for the first time at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1878 where he receives a bronze medal. He proposes pieces of colored glass of classical form, but complicated by projections and reliefs, obtained by a work of the vitreous mass with the pliers, with hot, which will become his distinguishing mark.
