In 1787, the King's Council of State decided to transfer the Queen's Crystal Factory from Sèvres to Montcenis. Built to plans by Barthélémy Jeanson, the buildings housed workshops, offices, administrators' and workers' accommodation, and the furnaces, housed in two conical halls. Until its acquisition in 1832 by the Saint-Louis and Baccarat establishments, the crystal factory enjoyed great influence. Eugène Schneider, who had become manager of the forges and workshops in Le Creusot, purchased the buildings of the former crystal factory, making them his residence. The Château de la Verrerie, a Historic Monument, is owned by the town of Le Creusot.
