Pair of miniature hand-painted with the portrait of General Empire Louis-Varé * and his wife, in wooden frames and gilded brass, vintage late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

These miniatures are in good condition. They are not signed.

A note: wormholes on frameworks, accidents and losses on brass decorations, miniatures seem slightly cut horizontally at the bottom, wear time, see photos.

* Louis-Varé (1766-1807):

General of the Revolution and the Empire. It entered service August 5, 1782, as a soldier in the army of Conde dragons, he became brigadier July 15, 1785, the sergeant on 16 October, and he was discharged on April 20, 1788. It returned to service on July 14 1789 as a second lieutenant in the national Guard of Versailles, and it passes adjutant shortly after. On 12 July 1790 he was appointed lieutenant of grenadiers and 19 October 1791, he became head of the 4th battalion of volunteers of Seine-et-Oise. From 1792 to 1796 he served in the army of the Moselle, and the northern army. He took part in the Battle of Hondschoote September 8, 1793, and was appointed colonel of August 20, 1794, in the 43rd Battle of demi-brigade. June 14, 1796, he assumed command of the 54th line infantry demi-brigade, and from 1796 to 1801, he served successively the armies of Batavia and the Rhine. On 3 December 1800, he participated in the Battle of Hohenlinden, then joined General Augereau in Batavia army on September 23, 1801. In 1802 he is part of the workforce planned to join the expedition in Louisiana under the command General Victor, but shipping will not take place, he was assigned in Hanover. He was promoted to Brigadier General August 29, 1803, at the military camp of Bayonne, and 16 November 1803, he joined the camp of Brest. He was knighted in the Legion of Honor December 11, 1803, and Commander of the Order on June 14, 1804. In June 1805 he was attached to the 2nd Division in the corps of Augereau, and 12 September 1805, he commanded the 3rd Brigade of the division of General Saint-Hilaire in the 4th corps of the Grand Army. It stands at the battle of Austerlitz December 2, 1805, and he was wounded by a gunshot to the left and a severe contusion to his right shoulder leg at the Battle of Eylau February 8, 1807. he died March 14, 1807, in Thorn died of his wounds at the battle of Eylau. His name appears on the bronze tablets of the Battles of the galleries at Versailles and on the walls of the room called the Archives of the column of the Grand Army at Boulogne-sur-Mer.
