Set of altar cannons * from the Gospel of Saint John, in gilded bronze, central panel surmounted by a cross with Christ, XIXth century.

These altar cannons are in good condition. They are under glass.

A note: the cross is broken and will have to be re-soldered (old repair which did not hold), some dirt, scratches and wear on the bronze, take a good look at the photos.

* At the time of the Latin mass with the back to the people, three paintings written in Latin and sometimes decorated by hand, were arranged on the altar, the one on the left included the text of the prologue to the Gospel according to Saint John, which the priest said at the end of mass. In the center a table on three columns included the Gloria, the Creed and the prayers of consecration. On the right the third contained the prayers of blessing for the water and the Washbasin. Often these guns are extremely decorated, and sometimes even by hand. The use of the central canon sometimes remains for the “Mass of Paul VI” (or “ordinary form of the Roman rite”) celebrated in Latin.
