This pyx is in good overall condition. It is missing its interior, base, and lid handle.
Please note: there are some minor accidents and wear on the enamels, please look carefully at the photos.
In Christian liturgy, a pyx is a sacred, box-shaped vessel used to hold the Eucharistic reserve (the consecrated hosts). The pyx may be made of ivory, sometimes carved, or of precious or gilded metal. In ancient times, the pyx served as a tabernacle. It was placed in a niche in the side wall of the sanctuary, near the altar, or suspended above the altar.
