Pair of Japanese Shakudo * buttons of round shape, decorated with two characters in traditional clothes, certainly Noh theater, from Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912).

These buttons are in good condition.

A note: missing the peak on the back of a button, tiny dirt, micro-scratches and slight wear of time,

* The shakudo:

is a copper (metal) copper alloy typically containing 3 to 7% gold, mainly used for its lacquer-like black-purple patina. Sometimes small amounts of other metals are added. In traditional Japanese art it is often hammered and encrusted with gold or copper to obtain very contrasting patterns.
