Netsuke * Katabori in polychrome carved boxwood representing a man seated drinking from a cup, the bottle at his feet, from Japan from the Edo period, 19th century.

This netsuke is in good condition, traces of polychromy in places. A similar model is represented in the book "Netsuke, Japanese miniature carvings" by Eva Cseh, Budapest Ferenc Hopp Museum, 2001.

A note: some scratches and wear of time, see photos.

* The Netsuke:

The Netsuke is a traditional Japanese clothing object used to maintain the sagemono (literally "hanging objects"). Indeed, the kimono not having a pocket, the various everyday objects are transported in kinds of small boxes called sagemono. These objects are suspended from their owner's obi by a cord.
