Terracotta sculpture signed Charles Virion * representing a cat making his toilet, signed below Cytère ** United France, placed on a wooden base, vintage late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

This sculpture is in good condition. Signed see photos.

A note: some scratches and wear on the terracotta at the back of the cat, some wear and dirt and small slots on the base, see photos.

* Charles Virion (1865-1946):

animal sculptor (Ec fr). Student of P. Aubé and Ch. Gauthier. Exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français since 1886; honorable mention in 1893; member in 1893; third class medal in 1895; bronze medal in 1900, at the Universal Exhibition; Animal Museum since 1913. The Museums of Calais, Nemours, Rochefort, Saint-Dizier and Sao Paolo preserve works of this artist. (See Benefit)

** Alphonse Cytère (1861 -1941) is a French ceramist engineer linked to the École de Nancy. He has developed a new technique for transforming an enamel with metallic reflections which has earned their notoriety "flamed sandstone Rambervillers".
