Oil on canvas depicting a still life consisting of a ceramic vase placed next to a candle holder, some fruits and a red fan, attributed to Gaston Roux *, vintage twentieth century.

This oil is in good condition. Signed on the back on the chassis.

* Gaston-Louis Roux (1904-1988)

is a French painter and draftsman. In 1926 he began a career as a draftsman thanks to André Malraux and Pascal Pia, who entrusted him with illustrative work. But the long period of doubts and unrest that goes from 1929 to 1944 makes Gaston-Louis Roux change. He does not want to remain a prisoner of the painting that earned him notoriety in his youth. He needs to move on and figuration becomes more and more important to him. At this time, he approaches Jean Hélion who, after an abstract period, has also returned to figurative painting. He is supported in his approach by his friend Alberto Giacometti he knows since the 1930s. After 1970, his painting evolves. This midday light changes his palette but he still has the same attractions. Beyond a few nudes and portraits, it is the objects that surround it, the tree or the stone and the flower ...
