Large Orientalist oil on canvas depicting a caravan of camels and several characters (men, women and children) praying in the desert, in the background an aqueduct and a city with its mosque, certainly in Turkey, signed L. Peyclit * and dated 1910, in its original setting, vintage early twentieth century.

This table is in good condition and is of high quality. It is very decorative because of its size. Dated and signed lower left. Probably made from a photograph.

A note: slight cracks in the canvas in the upper right corner, trace of a restoration on the back, some wear of time on the frame, see photos.

Leonard PEYCLIT (1857-1929):

Workshop photographer. Son of Léon Peyclit, owner farmer, who may have had a small career as a photographer. In 1881, he married in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime) where he opened a workshop 19, rue du Palais. He is listed there in 1891. He then practices 29, rue Dupaty. After 1901, he sold his business to the Spanish-born photographer Mestre de Puyol, who was listed there in 1906. Peyclit's presence in La Rochelle was attested at least until 1910. In 1919, Léonard Peyclit practiced in La Roche -on-Yon (Vendée). He died in March 1929 at the age of 72. In September 1929, his widow sold the business at 40 rue de Verdun to photographer Jean Ferlicot. Leonard Peyclit also made some paintings.
