Oil on canvas depicting a seaside landscape in Sweden, with fishing huts and some boats sailing, signed W. de Gegerfelt *, XIXth century.

This table is in good condition. Signed lower right.

* Wilhelm von Gegerfelt (1844-1920):

is a Swedish painter. Son of the architect Victor von Gegerfelt. From 1861 to 1863, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts from 1864 to 1867, then in Düsseldorf. He then moved to Paris where he settled in 1872. Inspired by the realism of outdoor work that we find in the work of painters painting in the forest of Fontainebleau on the Normandy coast. He travels to the north coast of France, Italy and England, painting the lagoons of Venice and the English chalk cliffs, as well as summer afternoons in Sweden. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1876 to 1880 and at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1881 to 1888, landscapes in the spirit of Theodore Rousseau, and his workshop at No. 14 rue Fromentin. Gegerfelt exhibited in Monaco from 1883 and won the silver medal at the 1883 exhibition in Vienna. In Paris, he sells his paintings to the Duke of Bassano and Goupil & Cie. He left France in 1888, and returned to Gothenburg, then moved to Vädero Gagerfelt spent the rest of his life in the fishing village of Torekov in southern Sweden. He died in 1920.
