Oil on panel signed Richard Hall * representing the portrait of Louis Homberg **, Captain of artillery in ceremonial uniform with his Legion of Honor medal, dated 1898, in a gilded wooden frame.

This table is in good condition and is of good quality. Signed lower right. Annotated on the back.

A note: tiny small accidents on the frame, wear of time, see photos.

* Richard Hall (1860-1942):

portrait painter, landscape designer and genre painter, born in Finland. Pupil of Laurens, Raphaël Collin and Benjamin Constant, he settled in Paris and exhibited towards the end of the XIXth and beginning of the XXth at the Salon of French Artists of which he became a member in 1903. Honorable mentions in 1890 and 1898. Silver medal in 1920 (Bénézit extract)

Married in 1882 Marie Le Proust du Perray (1860-1919). Artillery captain; Knight of the Legion of Honour.
The Homberg family is a Jewish family originating from Mainz, established in Le Havre at the beginning of the 18th century, naturalized French in 1775 and converted to Catholicism in 1785.
