Small oil on copper representing the portrait of Saint Mary Magdalene * penitent, hair detached, holding a cross and a skull, behind her the jar of ointment with which she washed and perfumed the feet of Christ, in a golden frame, d eighteenth century.

This table is in good condition as well as its frame.

A note: it had to be refinished, some slight accidents on the frame, wear of time, see photos.

* Marie Madeleine:

Marie de Magdala, Marie Madeleine or Madeleine, called Marie la Magdaléenne in the Gospels is a disciple of Jesus who follows him until his last days. The four Gospels designate her as the first witness to the Resurrection, which is responsible for warning the apostles. The tradition and the Christian iconography are based on these canonical and apocryphal texts to give several faces of Mary of Magdala, first the spiritual wife of Christ and the apostle of the Revelation then from the IVth century the denied sinner and flouted but repented, the Middle Ages seized many legends to make a saint. In sacred art, Marie Madeleine is very often depicted naked, with long, loose hair, to signify her repentance and penance. One of the iconographies of Mary Magdalene represents her as a hermit in the desert, after the death of Christ; attractive woman, not devoid of sensuality, long wavy hair covering her nudity, she prays or meditates, with her usual attributes of repentance, skull, cross, biblical book ...
