* Roland Gérardin Marie (1907-1935)

Student at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs, he then studied with Jean-Paul Laurens at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Gérardin exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 20 years, he received the Award by Duffer 1927, and the price Collin, and Stillman price. He won the Prix de Mangin in 1930. The same year, he won the second Prix de Rome in 1931 and a silver medal at the Salon of French Artists. In 1933, he won the Grand Prix de Rome. During his stay at the Villa Medici in Rome, he died at the age of 28. In his short career, but extraordinarily successful Gérardin produced many important paintings, many of them are biblical or allegorical subjects. He also produced works that depict the lifestyle and environment of the Parisian nightlife. The paintings he exhibited at the Salon of 1933-1935 ds group scenes are relaxing in front of the lake or river. Paint Salon of 1933 called "Girls In Waterfront" is remarkable because it represents a group of young women, one completely naked (this table echoes the "Luncheon on the Grass" by Manet scandal).
