* St. LUCIA :

Sicilian Virgin, martyred in Syracuse, in 304 under Diocletian. She had made the pilgrimage to Catania to the tomb of Saint Agatha; Following the recovery of the mother, she distributed all her fortune to the poor. Denounced as a Christian by her fiancé, her throat was pierced by a sword. Its cult was introduced in Rome from the 6th century. Around the year 1000, relics of the Saint were brought to Lorraine by Thierry, Bishop of Metz. Iconography: Saint Lucia has three kinds of attributes: the sword of her martyrdom; two eyes on a platter; a simple palm. (extract "Great book of Saints, Worship and iconography in the West" by Jacques Baudoin).

** Francis of Assisi

Italian Catholic religious, founder of the Order of Friars Minor (commonly known as the Franciscan Order) characterized by prayer, poverty, evangelization and respect for creation. He was canonized in 1228 by Pope Gregory IX and celebrated on October 4 in the Catholic liturgical calendar. One day while listening to a passage from the Gospel, an answer comes to him to what he seeks: to spend his life loving all of creation. He then transforms his life, he becomes poor, cares to announce the messages of joy, hope and love contained in the Bible, and to bring peace to people and to all of Creation. He dresses in a gray garment and girds himself at the waist with a cord. He thus wears the garment of the poor of his time. He is often depicted in iconography as receiving the stigmata of Christ.
