* Eugène Malonga (1930-2005)

is a Congolese painter. He is considered one of the five founders of Congolese painting, which did not exist before 1940. He began drawing at a young age and then perfected his skills at the École des Peintres de Poto-Poto, founded in 1951 by Pierre Lods. In 1961, Malonga obtained a six-month advanced training scholarship to the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, where after a test he was placed directly in the fourth year (the year of graduation). Among the decisive encounters, it is worth mentioning that of Roger Erell, architect of the Basilica of Saint Anne of the Congo in 1945, who introduced him to drawing, and that of Gaspard de Mouko, painter of Cameroonian origin, in the 1940s. Malonga has exhibited his works fairly regularly since 1954, once a year, he has exhibited in West Africa (Dakar, Djamena) but much more in Central Africa (Brazzaville, Libreville, Bangui and Kinshasa). His work includes many landscapes and some portraits. His favorite motifs are landscapes and genre scenes, with an evolution towards semi-abstraction. In the last ten years, he has returned to his love of realism.
