Oil on copper depicting the portrait of the Virgin and Child Jesus, after the famous icon "Salus populi romani" * in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, from the 18th century.

This painting is in good overall condition, in its original state.

Note: restoration in the basement (has been enlarged), some damage and paint loss, wear and tear of time, see photos.

The Salus Populi Romani (in English: "Safeguarding the Roman People") is an icon depicting the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus that has been the object of particular devotion since at least the 13th century. It is located in the Pauline (or Borghese) Chapel of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. According to tradition, it is attributed to the Evangelist Saint Luke.
