Superb large oil on canvas depicting Saint Agnes and Agnes of Rome * holding a pen in front of a book, a lamb at his feet, two cherubs coiffent the laurel wreath, dated 1827 XIXth century.

This oil is in good condition and frame. It is signed (hard to read) and dated lower right.

A note: it was réentoilée, the chassis is later also wear some time, see pictures.

* Agnes of Rome

or St. Agnes (290-303) is a saint, virgin and martyr. Its main attributes are a white lamb, the palm of martyrdom, a branch or an olive crown, sword or dagger and a stake in flames. His first name comes from the Greek meaning Agnos chaste or pure. She is the patron saint of engaged couples, chastity, crops, gardeners, girls, virgins.
