* In 1862, François CHARBONNEL creates a factory of crushed inks and varnishes for the printing of art: soft-cutting and lithography. The small family business opens its doors 13 quai de Montebello in Paris, on the docks, facing the Notre-Dame cathedral. The rediscovery of the lithographic processes allows a spectacular renewal of the print. Painters such as PISSARO, RENOIR, DEGAS or MANET become the regular customers of CHARBONNEL, whose reputation as inks for intaglio begins to cross the limits of the hexagon. Posters like LAUTREC or SIGNAC join the famous painters and engravers of their time. The factory of F. CHARBONNEL ensures its development by working on new methods of reproduction and the development of inks and varnishes always more powerful. (See Maison Charbonnel website)
