* In 2012, the Musée de l'Image acquired seven prints published in Paris by printers on the Rue St-Jacques at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. From the 17th century onwards, the image makers of the Rue St-Jacques reproduced and adapted the scholarly print that served as their model. The influence of Antwerp engravers is very clear, and the works of Rubens were popularized during this period by Parisian imagery. Moreover, Saint Roch published by Basset in 1789 bears witness to this influence, since the image bears the signature of Joan Berwinckel, a Flemish engraver who worked in Antwerp at the beginning of the 17th century. The case of this plate, engraved in the 17th century and published at the end of the 18th century, also highlights the tangle of transfers of funds between Parisian engravers and publishers over three centuries. The Parisian intaglios, in turn, served as models for provincial image makers to create woodcuts. The relationships between the image makers of Orléans and those of Paris in the 18th century are well known. Basset was also Hoyau's depositary and supplier in Chartres. The Parisian intaglios that were purchased for the museum's collections served as models or even have an iconography very close to the provincial images that we preserve.
