* "Pokrov"

means veil literally and takes from the Hebrew of the Old Testament, "seter" (veil) the figurative meaning of "protection, security". The orthodox festival of "Pokrov" or "feast of Our Lady of All Protection" is a festival of Russian origin: it commemorates an apparition of the Mother of God in Constantinople in the church of Blachernae. The iconography may vary: the icon of the Pokrov represents the Mother of God standing with her arms raised, in a Byzantine church decoration, and accompanied by the saints. The Virgin sometimes unfurls her veil. Above, stands the Christ bust, to whom the prayer of his Mother is addressed.
