Russian Orthodox icon (oil on panel) depicting Saint Nicholas*, Bishop of Myra, known as the Thaumaturge (= miracle worker) in episcopal robes and holding a Bible in Cyrillic characters, Christ and the Virgin appearing in small side medallions, from the 19th century.
This icon is in good overall condition, beautiful quality.

Saint Nicholas was a bishop of the Eastern Roman Empire, renowned for his charity and unwavering faith. Canonized, he was proclaimed the patron saint of many nations and professions, and is a popular figure in Christian hagiography. His feast day on December 6th is a very popular celebration in many countries around the world. On Saint Nicholas' Day, tradition dictates that children who have been good throughout the year receive sweets, varying in nature depending on the region, and gifts. He is honored as the patron saint of schoolchildren. Saint Nicholas is often called the "Thaumaturge" (miracle worker) because of the many accounts of wonders attributed to him. These miracles reflect his kindness and his role as protector of the weak and the needy.
