Russian Orthodox icon depicting Our Lady of Kazan** holding the Infant Jesus, riza* and decorations in finely chiseled solid Russian silver (hallmark 84 silversmith CW) and cloisonné enamels (in the corners and crowns), revealing the faces and hands of the figures, from the late 19th century.

This icon is in good overall condition, superb quality. Hallmarked (see photos), maker unidentified.

Please note: there are some minor dents and damage, particularly on the sides, tiny chips in the enamel, dirt, scratches and wear and tear from age, please look carefully at the photos.

* The "oclades"

The metal coverings, which can be made of sculpted silver, inlaid with enamel, or even pearls, are used for icons that have performed a miracle. There are several types of oclad: the "Basma," which covers only the frame of the icon, and the "Riza," which covers the background of the icon, leaving only the figures visible.

The icon of Our Lady of Kazan is particularly revered by the Orthodox Church, especially the Russian Orthodox Church. It dates from 1572. It is also venerated by Catholics, although its feast day is exclusively inscribed in the Orthodox liturgical calendar. Two major cathedrals in Moscow and Saint Petersburg are dedicated to it. It is celebrated on July 21 and November 4.
