* Saint Roch

(born in Montpellier, around 1340 - 1379) is the patron saint of pilgrims and numerous brotherhoods or corporations: surgeons, apothecaries, street pavers, furriers, furriers, second-hand clothes dealers, carders, and also the protector of animals. His cult, very popular, has spread throughout the world. Orphaned at a very young age, he was entrusted to his uncle. When he came of age, he distributed all his possessions to the poor and left on a pilgrimage to Rome. He stopped in several Italian towns affected by the plague and worked to serve the sick in hospitals. Rome being attacked by the same evil, he went there, and occupied himself there for about three years. On his return, he stopped at Piacenza, also in the grip of the epidemic. Roch ended up catching the disease himself and he retreated to a forest near Plaisance so as not to infect others. Only a dog came to feed him, bringing him a piece of bread stolen from his master's table every day. The latter, intrigued by the animal's behavior, followed it into the forest and discovered the injured saint, whom he was able to help. The Saint is invoked against epidemics of plague, cholera, typhus, Spanish flu, AIDS, against silicosis of stonemasons, pavers and quarrymen and against diseases of animals (the casserole) and of the vine (phylloxera). . We recognize the anti-plague saint Roch by his staff (the bumblebee) which he holds in his hand. Sometimes he wears a bag, a pilgrim's hat and cape. A dog stands next to him with an angel.
