* Saint Laurent:
Born in Aragon, near Huesca, Lawrence was a deacon of the Roman Church, whose property he administered. A victim of Valerian's persecution, he was arrested at the same time as Pope Sixtus II, who was beheaded on August 6. Lawrence was tortured on a grill to make him reveal where he had hidden the Church's treasure. He died on August 10, 258. To house his tomb, Emperor Constantine built the Basilica of Saint Lawrence Outside the Walls in Rome. Saint Lawrence is the patron saint of the poor, to whom he had distributed the Church's treasures, and of bakers because of the instrument of his martyrdom. He is also the patron saint of deacons, firefighters, cooks, roasters, charcoal burners, roasters, librarians, archivists, and glassmakers.
