A carved wooden religious statue (most likely a decorative fragment from an altarpiece) depicting God the Father. Sporting a long, curly beard and abundant hair, he raises his right hand in a gesture of blessing and holds an orb (a terrestrial globe symbolizing his universal sovereignty) in his left. Dating from the 17th century.
This sculpture is in good overall condition, it has suffered some damage from time.
The iconography here fully adheres to the codes of divine authority of the Eternal Father, with a stern face marked by age and a long, mature beard. This distinguishes it from similar representations of Christ as the Savior of the World (also with a raised arm and orb), whose face is younger, with a shorter beard.
Note: the right hand is damaged and partially missing, numerous holes and cracks in the wood, wear and tear from age, see photos.
