Wedding spoon * Breton folding carved wood geometric patterns (rosette, flowers and hearts), decorated with small colored rhinestones, vintage late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
This spoon is in good condition.

* A wedding spoon is a carved wooden spoon, offered in the 19th century Breton custom by a man to a woman as confirmation of his intention to marry him and consolidate their engagement. The patterns decorating these spoons are usually geometric, but there are also often hearts. The beauty of the spoon reflected the opulence of the future husband. This tradition seems to be a consequence of the habit taken by guests at the wedding to bring their spoons. After the wedding, the spoon was exposed on a wall of the house, the spoons of common use being stored in the wheel-shaped spoon holder suspended horizontally above the table of households a little easy.
